Trends are always coming and going, but this is one we’re absolutely loving! Mixing materials patterns and textures can add interest to a small space and this trend plays right into that. Rugs are often the focal point of a room – your opportunity to tie all of your pieces together and lay a strong foundation for your design. By layering your rugs, you’ll elevate your space to the next level.
Layering can be done in many ways, but here are a few easy ideas to create that extra ‘pop’ we’re all looking for.
Add Some Texture – Bringing natural fibers through a jute rug into your design can add a great, grounding touch. However, these aren’t always what you want to dig your toes into while you are curled up in your living room. By doing a large jute rug with a slightly smaller, soft, patterned rug on top, you can have the best of both worlds – comfort, pattern and the added texture of a natural fiber rug.
Mixing Shapes – Not everything in the rug world has to be rectangular! Use a large area rug with a subtle pattern to pull the space together, but don’t stop there. Consider adding a smaller, uniquely shaped rug in the center as a base for your coffee table or ottoman. Layering a hide rug on top of a neutral area rug will create a fun focal point in the center of your room.
Pop of Prints – Mixing up your prints is not something to be afraid of! If done right, a combination of rugs with unique prints can add the touch of color to your room that you may have been lacking. For the minimalist, using patterned rugs is a great way to add interest instead of art or décor. With simplistic furniture and décor, your rugs will be the perfect statement.
These are just a few of our favorite rug layering tricks, but this simple design trend can take any room from average to exceptional.
