Elevate Your Kitchen with a Better Island

Oftentimes our visions of kitchens are limited to what we grew up with: sink, stove, oven, and maybe a table. Last week we talked about mixing things up with a stylish breakfast nook. This week we’re talking about rethinking islands.

Growing up, my family had a kitchen island. It was right in the middle between the stove and the sink. It was functional, it was solid, and it was either the center of our lives or the center of our junk mail. It wasn’t particularly special or stylish.

But the right kitchen island combined with the right seating immediately elevates your kitchen. Together they bring in a feeling of gathering while cooking yet in a more formal way. Although I love the idea of being able to talk to your guests while preparing a meal, ten cooks in the kitchen isn’t exactly ideal. This natural separation, combined with plush seating and beautiful countertops, is the perfect setting for your all your intimate gatherings.

Custom islands with custom benches are a fantastical way to update your kitchen. Not only can you pick the exact color you want for your upholstery, you also decide length, type of storage, and style.
